Tamim Iqbal among 29 final candidates in BCB election
The Official Final Roster for the BCB Elections
The administrative landscape of Bangladesh cricket is preparing for a significant transition as the final list of candidates for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Board of Directors election has been officially confirmed. Following a thorough nomination verification process and the completion of the formal withdrawal window, the Election Commission has released the final candidate list, revealing that a total of 29 candidates remain in the race to shape the future of cricket in the country.
With key positions contested across three distinct categories, the election represents a critical juncture for regional sports associations, Dhaka-based clubs, and national institutions. While some regions will see direct head-to-head contests, other districts have already determined their representatives through uncontested pathways.
Category-1: Regional and District Sports Associations
Category-1 represents regional and district sports associations across the country. In this category, there are 10 director positions available, with a total of 12 candidates contesting. Due to the geographical distribution of nominations, several candidates are set to be elected unopposed as they face no challengers in their respective regions.
Unopposed Winners in Category-1
The following candidates are set to secure their director positions automatically:
- Sylhet Division Sports Association: Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury
- Bogura District Sports Association: Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto

Active Contests in Category-1
While many regional directors enjoy an uncontested path to the board, genuine competition will take place in two key divisions:
- Khulna Division: Three candidates—Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam, and Abdus Salam—are actively fighting for the two available director positions.
- Barishal Division: A direct contest will take place for the single available post, where Mizanur Rahman faces competition from Muntasir Alam Chowdhury.
Category-2: Dhaka-Based Cricket Clubs
Category-2, which represents the prestigious Dhaka-based cricket clubs, stands out as the most competitive and high-profile segment of the BCB election. A total of 16 candidates are contesting for 12 available director positions, making it the primary battleground of the election.
This category features prominent cricket organizers and former players, including former Bangladesh national team captain Tamim Iqbal. Tamim, who currently serves as the chairman of the BCB ad-hoc committee, is contesting the election representing the Old DOHS Sports Club.
