A Historic Milestone for Women’s Officiating

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the panel of match officials for the highly anticipated ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Scheduled to be hosted by England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, 2026, the tournament promises to be a landmark event for the sport. Notably, the ICC has maintained its commitment to progress by unveiling an all-women officiating lineup for the third consecutive edition, ensuring that the game’s governance on the field continues to evolve.

The Tournament Landscape

With 12 teams set to compete, the tournament structure is divided into two groups of six. Group A features powerhouses Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Group B includes hosts England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, Ireland, and Scotland. Fans are already looking forward to the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan on June 14 at Edgbaston, while the opening match will see hosts England face off against Sri Lanka on June 12.

A Strong Indian Presence

Among the 18 officials selected, India is exceptionally well-represented with four individuals named to the prestigious list. Leading the charge is the esteemed match referee GS Lakshmi, whose experience will be vital during the tournament. Joining her on the umpires’ roster are Vrinda Rathi and Janani N., both of whom bring significant expertise to the field. Additionally, Gayathri Venugopalan is set to make her tournament debut, marking a significant milestone in her officiating career.

The Composition of the Panel

The selection process reflects a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent. Out of the 18 officials, nine have been retained from the 2024 edition, ensuring continuity and stability. Furthermore, four officials—Shathira Jakir Jesy, Kerrin Klaaste, Candace La Borde, and Gayathri Venugopalan—will be making their T20 World Cup debuts. This influx of fresh perspectives is balanced by the presence of legends such as Australian umpire Claire Polosak, who is preparing for her sixth World Cup, and Jacquline Williams and Kim Cotton, both embarking on their fifth appearances.
