RCB’s Yash Dayal Breaks Silence For First Time After IPL 2026 Snub
The Shadow Over a Historic Victory
For the first time since the inception of the Indian Premier League in 2008, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally reached the pinnacle of domestic cricket, securing their maiden championship title last season after a hard-fought victory against the Punjab Kings. While the celebrations were initially joyous, the triumph was swiftly overshadowed by a cloud of controversy involving one of their key performers, pacer Yash Dayal.
The Nature of the Controversy
The situation surrounding Dayal escalated throughout 2025 as he became embroiled in severe legal proceedings. He faced multiple allegations, including sexual exploitation and charges related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In July 2025, an FIR was lodged in Ghaziabad, where a woman accused the cricketer of mental, financial, and sexual exploitation. Following this, a second FIR was registered in Jaipur, with allegations dating back to 2023. By December 2025, the Jaipur special POCSO Court had denied his plea for anticipatory bail.
Given the gravity of these accusations, the RCB management faced mounting pressure. While the franchise stopped short of releasing him entirely, they made the decisive move to exclude him from the active IPL 2026 squad to avoid further association with the ongoing investigations.

After being sidelined from the spotlight of the 2026 season, the left-arm pacer has finally addressed the situation. In his statement, Dayal focused on his continued connection with the RCB franchise, expressing gratitude that he remains on the books despite the turmoil.
“That’s my team, and the main thing is that they didn’t remove me from the team. They retained me and didn’t announce my replacement as well. They think that I am an important part of the team,” Dayal remarked. He further clarified his perspective on the decision-making process, stating, “It wasn’t my personal decision to opt out of the season. The decision was taken by the authorities, so I don’t know why RCB didn’t play me. But now I don’t want to talk about this controversy anymore.”
A Rollercoaster IPL Career
Yash Dayal’s journey in the IPL has been marked by extreme highs and lows. Entering the league in 2022, his reputation took a significant hit in 2023 when he was struck for five consecutive sixes by Rinku Singh during a high-stakes clash between the Gujarat Titans and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Many pundits suggested his career might be over at that stage.
However, RCB showed immense faith in his abilities by drafting him into their setup during the subsequent auction. Dayal responded by becoming a vital cog in their bowling attack, picking up 15 wickets in 14 games during his first season with the side, helping the team secure a playoff spot. During the historic title-winning run, he contributed 13 wickets, establishing himself as a reliable left-arm option for the franchise.
The Road Ahead
The decision by RCB to keep Dayal out of the current season highlights the franchise’s awareness of the intense public and legal scrutiny surrounding the player. As long as he has not been granted a clean chit by the courts, his participation remains untenable. The organization has navigated a difficult path, balancing the player’s contractual status with the necessity of maintaining their reputation.
Moving forward, the situation remains fluid. Should the legal process conclude in his favor and he is cleared of the allegations, the path may open for a return to professional cricket. Until then, the cricket world continues to watch closely as the legal proceedings dictate the future of his sporting career.
